About Louise Nevelson's Art
Louise Nevelson's most famous works are her large-scale sculptures made from wood, metal, and other objects. These sculptures are often monochromatic and are sometimes referred to as her "black boxes".Nevelson's early work was heavily influenced by Cubism and Constructivism. In the 1940s, she began to experiment with found objects, which she would assemble into collages and sculptures. In the 1950s, Nevelson began to focus on her large-scale wooden sculptures. She would assemble these sculptures from discarded pieces of wood, which she would then paint or stain in a single color. These sculptures often resemble cityscapes, with their tall, vertical forms.
